The smart plug method is super straightforward\u2014it\u2019s all about powering up the PC via the smart plug. The power-on card method, on the other hand, involves using a PCIe-compatible power-on card that integrates with Mi Home, allowing remote control. Sounds a bit technical? Don\u2019t worry, I\u2019ll break it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smart Plug Method\u2014Simple and Easy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s start with the smart plug method. Basically, you use a smart plug to automatically turn on the PC when power is supplied. You\u2019ll need a Mi smart plug\u2014any version works\u2014but if it\u2019s the Zigbee version , you\u2019ll also need a gateway. No gateway? No worries, just pick another version of the plug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steps to follow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Unplug your PC\u2019s power cable and plug it into the smart plug.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Pair the smart plug, then plug the cable back into your PC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. When you power on, the motherboard logo will appear on the screen (usually with BIOS prompts). Follow the prompt to enter BIOS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Once in BIOS, change the language to English (or Chinese if that\u2019s easier). Some older or generic motherboards may not have a language setting, but feel free to comment, and I\u2019ll help if I can.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Go to \u201cAdvanced Settings\u201d -> \u201cAdvanced Power Management,\u201d and set \u201cRestore Power After AC Loss\u201d to \u201cPower On.\u201d Save, exit, and restart.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    After all that\u2019s set, just use Xiao Ai to turn on the plug, and your PC will power on automatically! Even when you\u2019re away from home, you can use remote control software to operate your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Pros and Cons of the Smart Plug Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Pros<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Convenient and easy; no need to mess with the PC\u2019s internals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Cons<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. You can\u2019t use the smart plug to shut down the PC\u2014it could lead to data loss. So don\u2019t think about scheduling a timed shutdown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. You need to remember to turn off the plug. If you don\u2019t, next time you want to turn on the PC, you\u2019ll have to turn off the plug for 5-10 seconds before powering back on. Also, if your power goes out and comes back while you\u2019re not home, the plug will restore the previous power state, meaning your PC could power on, and you wouldn\u2019t even know.
